Shawn Sullivan named President at American Insurance

Fourth generation takes helm of family owned agency

Shawn D. Sullivan, CIC, is now serving as President of American Insurance effective Jan. 1, 2019. The announcement was made at the agency’s Dec. 14 annual staff meeting. Shawn represents the fourth generation of Sullivans to serve as president of American Insurance, now in its 97th year of business.

Shawn (pictured left) received the ceremonial passing of the gavel from his father, John B. Sullivan (pictured right), who has served as president since 1996.  John has taken the title of Chairman and will continue to service his select clients while providing transition guidance over the next four years.

John’s son, Philip J. Sullivan, CIC, was named as vice president of the Agency.  He will also continue as Personal Lines manager with added duties of operations management.

Shawn Sullivan joined American Insurance 25 years ago in 1994.  He is a licensed agent for all lines of insurance and is experienced in every type of personal and business insurance – auto, property, liability, crime, inland marine, bonds, and workers compensation. Shawn specializes in insurance for non-profit organizations, public/government entities, public schools, assisted living homes, contractors and bonding.

Shawn received and maintained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation since 2002. He is a past president of the Lewiston Independent Insurance Agents Association. Shawn has managed the Moscow branch office since 1996 and now will provide the vision and strategic planning for American Insurance. The agency has 20 employees in two offices with insurance customers in seven western states. Shawn will continue to split his time between Moscow and Lewiston to best serve his customers.

Shawn was born and raised in north Idaho. He graduated from Culdesac High School in 1989, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho in 1994 and then immediately joined the family insurance business at American Insurance.
